I am a journalist – though my path in the industry has been less than traditional. I graduated with a degree in journalism and began my career at CNN in Atlanta. However, due to economic pressures, I started to consider jobs outside of journalism. Ultimately I decided to enlist in the US Navy, a choice that would expose me to a wealth of new experiences. While serving, I worked as a signals intelligence analyst while helping to combat piracy, drug smuggling, and terrorism in various areas of the Middle East. After my contract ended, however, I wanted to get back into journalism and decided to approach the field from an academic perspective by enrolling in a Masters program at the University of Minnesota. Here I have studied how new media formats like blogs and news aggregators influence the boundaries of journalism and what these changes mean for the standards of reporting in the future.
However, as my degree program draws to a close, I am eager to return to active work in the industry where I began my professional life. My experiences have made me very knowledgeable in not only international events and affairs but military and intelligence community subjects as well. I invite you to explore this site and learn more about my experiences and what I can add to your newsroom.
